We’re continually discovering new applications for
scrap tyres in our quest to decrease the number
of tyres entering waste streams and landfill.
Tyrecycle started in 1992 as a waste tyre division of a major tyre manufacturer. It soon expanded into a national tyre recycler for all types of tyres and today is part of the highly regarded integrated resource recovery group, ResourceCo. We’re continually discovering new applications for scrap tyres in our quest to decrease the number of tyres entering waste streams and landfill.
At Tyrecycle we believe all waste tyres generated in Australia should be recycled in an efficient, environmentally sound and socially responsible manner. It is our belief that the global community needs to be smarter about how we use the earth’s limited resources. At Tyrecycle we’re continually evaluating our systems to ensure their efficiency and effectiveness. And our commitment to a high level of service also comes with the certainty that compliance with statutory, regulatory and customer requirements is a given.
Government estimates that around the equivalent of 51+ million passenger tyres reach the end of their life each year and that less than 5% of waste tyres (8 million pa) are recovered and properly managed within Australia. Tyrecycle collect tyres from manufacturers, tyre retail partners, local councils and other sources and process them at secure facilities across Australia in accordance with environmental regulations. The tyres are processed into a range of rubber granules and fine powders.
The disposal of waste tyres and conveyor belts from mining machinery in Australia is problematic. Their size, construction and invariably remote location make their disposal or reuse difficult and expensive. In Australia, about 10 million tyres expire annually. Most of them are disposed to landfill, either in shredded or whole form. In serving the mining and resources community, Tyrecycle are committed to the discovery of new applications for scrap tyres and conveyor belts, thus reducing the environmental damage.
Tyrecycle continues to work with government and industry to increase awareness of the importance of tyre recycling and associated product development. Tyrecycle was integral in the establishment of the Australian Tyre Recycling Association and is a member of Tyre Stewardship Australia. A major aim of Tyrecycle is to discover new applications for scrap tyres and decreasing the number of tyres entering waste streams and landfill.
It’s a very simple process. Our first step in recovery of Off The Road (OTR) tyres and conveyor belts from remote mining sites is, depending on requirements, we can attend onsite and either shred in-situ with our mobile shredder or cut them down for safer handling and transport the rubber waste back to one of our five processing facilities across Australia. Then as with collections from manufacturers, tyre retail partners, local councils and other sources we process them at secure facilities across Australia in accordance with environmental regulations (including all EPA and Council approvals).
Tyres and belts may be used for granulation feedstock, the base material from which we produce repurposed products. We’re also producing Tyre Derived Fuel (TDF) and Tyre Derived Aggregate (TDA) as well as rubber granulate in varying sizes, rubber crumb (440 to 710 micron) and recovering steel from tyres.
Tyrecycle control the end of life destinations of our products, to ensure the full chain of custody in our recycling processes. With strict documentation and process controls, Tyrecycle is able to supply reports supporting the end destinations of the products; be they rubber crumb or TDF.
Tyrecycle continues to work with government and industry to increase awareness of the importance of tyre recycling and the promise of associated product development. Tyrecycle was integral in the establishment of the Australian Tyre Recycling Association (ATRA) and is also a member of Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA).

An Australian first, a specially designed and built mobile shredder. The purpose built shredder will help to eliminate dangerous stockpiles of rubber waste, including abandoned tyres and conveyor belts, throughout regional and remote locations across Australia. The mobile shredder is designed to not only assist councils burdened by stockpiles of end-of-life waste tyres and conveyor belts, but also to meet the needs of remote or regional mining and construction sites. The difference of this unit to many standard shredders on the market that simply tear the tyre apart for product destruction purposes, is it produces a dedicated 6 inch chip product that can be utilised across many industries including as a fuel for energy recovery.
Features:
Tyrecycle’s expertise in creating TDF for cement kilns is combined with the parent-company ResourceCo Asia’s expertise and direct contract relationships with the cement industry. This allows disposal customers to be guaranteed that by maintaining the chain of custody, all TDF produced reaches its intended destination of the cement kiln. Furthermore, a strict audit process ensures that all users of TDF supplied by Tyrecycle are environmentally compliant.
Tyrecycle has established a quality control regime, administered through our on-site laboratory, for day to day monitoring of product quality. The production process for TDF is undertaken in accordance with environmental regulations, including all Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Council approvals. The fuel parameters, also monitored by a laboratory, are Calorific Value, Size, Sulphur and Ash. A complete understanding of the expected levels of each of these parameters and their potential impact upon the kiln underpins the commercial success of any alternative fuel.
